| Kurdish Rug | The blue field, abrashed in several places, contains four octagons filled with crosses, while cartouche motifs, flowers and smaller geometric designs adorn the intervening spaces. A reciprocal trefoil band divides the field from the wide border, its central stripe decorated with rosettes on an ochre ground. The typical kilim finish, preserved at the top, and knotting structure suggest a provenance in the surroundings of Bijar. Original sides and upper finish, restored lower finish. | |

| Qashqa'i Horse Cover | A flatwoven horse cover by the Qashqa'i nomads, woven in two halves that were later joined, like a jijim. The blue-black field shows a repeat of white octagons, each filled with a star, and two peacocks surrounded by a frieze of four-legged animals at the bottom. A wide design panel of colourful vertical stripes frames the field on both sides and continues upwards to form the wide chest tabs placed around the horse's neck. | Turkmen Ensi | Coarsely woven, with massive border designs and a rare field design of serrated diamonds divided in two by colour change and arranged into colour diagonals, this ensi cannot immediately be attributed to any of the known tribal groups inhabiting the valley of the Amu Darya river. It may be an Uzbek piece. Original finishes all around, slight signs of wear in the pile. | |

| Ersari Engsi | The light red field shows a diamond repeat of wide bars containing stars which are linked to form a lattice-like structure in the upper section. The palette and wool quality suggest an early date. Judging by its format, this rare example probably served as a door or wall hanging in a house inhabited by settled Turkmen as it is too wide for a tent door. Three main carpets with a comparable diamond composition (Ellis Collection in "Turkmen", Herrmann IV, Meyer-Müller Collection, sold by us in 1987) may have been woven by the same tribal group. Sides cut and newly overcast, minimally reduced ends, low pile, several repiled areas. | |

| Silk Kashan | A splendid Kashan workshop carpet with a lustrous silk pile, woven in the souf technique where the design is placed on a flatwoven ground, and thus stands out like a relief. The field design of a large vase, from which twigs laden with flowers cascade forth, and pillars at the sides supporting a sweeping arch is a representation of the Garden of Paradise. Owned by an Irish aristocratic family for decades and always used as a wall hanging, this rug is perfectly preserved. | |

At the foot of the tree, the date "1318" appears on the left and an inscription on the right. Newly overcast sides, minimally reduced ends, in good overall condition. | |
