| Afshar | The red field covered in botehs shows a dark blue shield form in which three red diamonds with hooked birds head outlines are embedded in a dense design of hooked diamonds and botehs. The third diamond is distinctly smaller than the other two, indicating that the weaver made a mistake in planning her design. Judging by the border ornamentation, this rare carpet may have been made by Afshars in the Neriz region. Both ends have flatwoven finishes in sumakh technique. Slight signs of age and wear. | |

| Kashmir Shawl | A square wool embroidery with a concentric composition of slender botehs, all oriented towards the small undecorated star at the centre of the field. Lifelike representations of men and women, drawn in great detail in various postures and garments, have been inserted into the design, which thus reads like an illustrated sheet. In addition, the field is populated by birds fluttering about the figures. The border has been designed as an animal frieze divided into niche compartments. Slight signs of wear. | |

| Kum Kapi | This silk carpet was made around 1900 in one of the Armenian master workshops of Kum Kapi, a district of Istanbul specialised in the production of such fine and elegant weavings, with designs based on classical models. The composition a dense repeat of ogival fields inscribed with blossoms, palmettes, flowering trees and vases derives from classical vase carpets made in Kerman. The richly contrasting palette of the antique models was abandoned in favour of mild pastel shades that were better suited to the prevailing taste of the period. Replaced selvedges, slight signs of age and wear. | |

| Zarand | The village of Zarand, where this carpet was made, is situated at the very eastern edge of the large Hamadan weaving area. A midnight blue, ogival central medallion filled with small blossoms stands alone in the cream field, while the blue corners repeat the decorative scheme of the medallion. The deeply jagged, lightning-like outlines of the medallion and corners are a typical stylistic feature of Zarand carpets, and also occur in Kerdar and Mazlaghan carpets woven in Hamadan. - Newly overcast sides, good condition. | |
