| Saryk Tent Band | This tent band, probably of an early date in the 18th century and fully preserved, was previously exhibited in Gothenburg in 1999. Although increasing knowledge of Turkmen tent bands makes their attribution more difficult rather than easier, the fine execution, design layout, palette and style of drawing suggest that this band is a Saryk weaving. Some of the design details have been woven in ruby silk. The representations of camels in two of the compartments are an especially rare feature. An extremely rare collector’s item. – Only insignificant signs of age; very well preserved in view of its age. | |

| Ziegler Mahal | A small-format rug from the Ziegler workshops, its light red field covered in a section of a repeat of two-dimensional palmettes arranged around a vertical axis. The Ziegler company was a British firm that had carpets woven for export in Sultanabad and the surrounding villages of the Mahal region as of 1883, increasingly using its own designs. While Ziegler designers employed traditional Persian motifs, they placed these in a new context, changed the style of drawing and created a new look for the carpets by altering their palette, using mostly light shades. – Signs of wear in the pile, original selvedges, minimally reduced ends. | |

| Kirsehir Prayer Rug | This yellow-ground prayer rug, with an open field and a steeply rising mihrab, was made during the reign of Sultan Abdul Mejid, when new designs and compositions that deviated from tradition emerged, supposedly upon the initiative of his court. The stylistic era is also called Turkish baroque. – Original sides, remains of the green kilim finish at the top, somewhat reduced at the bottom. In good overall condition. | |

| Sioux Beaded Vest | A vest by the Sioux Indians embroidered in glass beads, with geometric, totemistic designs on a brilliant white ground. The beads have been embroidered onto buckskin and a leather fringe has been added at the bottom. Included is a trapezoid two-piece loincloth, each piece patterned in four vertical bars. Unsuitable for a warrior on account of its size, the costume was probably made for a child for ceremonial purposes. – Very well preserved. | |

| Dragon Sumakh | The design of dragon sumakhs derives from older Caucasian workshop carpets, and has been technically adapted to the geometric style of flatweaves. In this dated example with a strikingly beautiful palette, the design of large, two-dimensional ornaments has been spaciously conceived. – Following expert restoration of major worn areas, the sumakh is now in good condition. | |

| Ningxia | The field of this small-format Chinese pictorial rug depicts the eight horses of the legendary Emperor Mu Wang, said to have lived in the 10th century BC. However, this type of picture only emerged in the 18th century. Made in Ningxia and with a heavily corroded brown outer edge, the example offered here is probably one of the earliest rugs on that theme. A very similar example consigned from the same collection was sold by us in auction A 78 in May 2011 (lot 66). – Very good condition. | |
