| Shusha Kelleh | This splendid Shusha in kelleh format was previously sold by us (May 1999, # 142). Dated 1831, the piece then belonged to the old German aristocratic family of Metternich and was bought at the auction by a Hesse collector. The carpet is virtually undistinguishable from an analogous piece published by Grote-Hasenbalg in 1922, dated 1848. – Shushas of the Harshang design, successors of 18th century classical Caucasian workshop carpets, were widely exported even then; naturally, the Tsarist Empire was the primary destination. – Fully preserved with the original side and end finishes, very good condition. | |
