Daghestan Prayer Rug Comparatively coarse in weave and flexible in handle, this white-ground prayer rug was probably made in Daghestan. Prayer rugs from the Shirvan and Daghestan regions are so similar in design and colour scheme that a precise attribution is often difficult. – Original finishes all around, one stitched tear, restored areas.

Qashqa’i Horse Cover, Darreh Shuri Tribe A Darreh Shuri decorative horse cover composed of two panels woven in the “darre darane” technique. The field and tabs show a design that is typical of the tribe – a small-format repeat of white octagons on a blue-black ground. The lower end is decorated with a wide horizontal panel containing knotted tufts of wool in brilliant and diverse colours as well as long warps tied off into plaits. – Good condition.

The main border shows a leaf and calyx vine on a white ground. – Original selvedges, slightly reduced ends. Slight signs of age and wear, several repiled areas.

Marasali Prayer Rug Lot: 236
Marasali Prayer Rug Botehs in various brilliant colours with serrated outlines and of diverse interior drawing form a dense repeat of offset rows in the midnight blue field. A wide prayer arch has been integrated into the repeat at the upper end. The white-ground border is decorated with red abstract birds. The characteristic shape of the botehs, fine weave and silk wefts indicate that this prayer rug from the Shirvan region belongs to the Marasali group. – New overcasting along the sides, both ends minimally reduced, small repiled sections. Otherwise in good condition.

Tekke Torba Lot: 239
Tekke Torba A twelve-gül Tekke torba with a dark mahogany field, chemche secondary designs and a border of kotchak hooks. The narrow elem is undecorated in this piece. A very fine weave, dense velvety pile, an outstanding palette. – The tent bag is perfectly preserved (including the kilim back) and appears to have been rarely used.

Sauj Bulag A Kurdish rug, with a repeat of closely spaced, offset stepped polygons in changing colour combinations on a dark brown field; the centres of the polygons are decorated with solid crosses. Three border stripes of equal width show identical rosette designs. – Cut sides, resevedged, both ends reduced, several repiled areas.
