Karapinar Lot: 32
Karapinar

Preface on German Bogner

This village rug from the Karapinar area displays a huge solid cross at the centre of the field and a characteristic field outline that goes back to far older animal fur rugs. Its good condition, with the pile at its original height, is surprising; the piece may have been used as a sleeping rug (yatak). Many examples of this type have survived, either in the present format or in long formats, the latter with a number of balky stars lined up in a row. The elems contain the shield motifs that are characteristic of Konya rugs. – Fully preserved, with the original selvedges and red kilim finishes. Several stains.

Farahan Saddle Cover Lot: 33
Farahan Saddle Cover Except for two small flowering trees placed in the lower corners, the blue-black field of this Farahan saddle cover is entirely undecorated – a rather rare phenomenon. The crescent-shaped incision for the cantle, edged in white cord, thus stands out strikingly. The opening for the pommel has been closed. – Original sides and lower finish, somewhat reduced and newly overcast upper end. Signs of wear, low spots in the pile.
