Turkmen Tent Band Fragment Lot: 41
Turkmen Tent Band Fragment A small section of an obviously very old tent band, possibly a Saryk weaving judging by its palette. Several design details have been knotted in white cotton; silk has not been used. Damage to the sides, signs of age and wear, several holes.

Tekke Chuval An early six-gül Tekke chuval, its field design strongly influenced by Salor models. A fine weave, depressed warps, clear and brilliant colours, velvety pile. Cut and newly overcast sides, residues of glue on the reverse. Somewhat reduced at the top and bottom. Otherwise in good condition.

Jaff Bag Face Lot: 43
Jaff Bag Face The field displays the obligatory repeat of closely spaced, hooked diamonds set into in a diamond lattice, its compartments woven in just two colours (brown and red), dividing the surface into a clearer structure than is usually the case in this type. A red-ground border of octagons. Well preserved.

Tekke Main Carpet Lot: 44
Tekke Main Carpet A large Tekke main carpet with 5 x 12 güls and kurbaghe secondary güls, completely preserved with the wide kilim finishes. A fine weave, brilliant colours, a dense velvety pile. Moth damage, some damage and holes along the left-hand side.

Bijar Lot: 45
Bijar A very beautiful Bijar with a three-row tree design of cypresses, weeping willows and poplars on an ivory ground, drawn in the geometric style that is characteristic of the provenance. A comparison with the two near-identical examples cited below illustrates the traditional nature of the design. The design was also popular with the Bakhtiari (see example in Opie). Several stains, slight signs of wear. Good overall condition.

Bakhtiari Lot: 46
Bakhtiari In this old Bakhtiari rug from the Chahar Mahal region, the tree design on a midnight blue field, including cypresses, weeping willows, poplars and smaller flowering trees, goes back to North West Persian models. It is called „bid majnun“ (weeping willow) in Iran. The red-ground main border has hooked octagons filled with stars lined up along a pole. Willborg illustrates several carpets showing this popular field design. The kilim ends have been preserved, newly overcast sides, signs of wear in the pile.

Karachov Kazak Lot: 48
Karachov Kazak In this green-ground Karachov, the central octagon has been replaced by a rectangle with a wide, chequerboard style, red-and-blue outline enclosing a box design filled with four stars. Analogous designs accompany the central motif at the top and bottom. A wide, white-ground border of double hooks, which are set into rectangles at the long sides only. Low pile, several repairs, the outermost border has been repiled at the bottom.

Sevan Kazak Lot: 49
Sevan Kazak Tschebull has published another example of this specific Sevan type with a cartouche border, in which the centre of the mighty shield form is entirely filled by a rectangle. Uniformly low pile, various repiled sections.

Ghiordes Lot: 50
Ghiordes A two-column niche carpet, its mihrab field densely filled with vines and its wide border area ornately decorated. This well-known type, many examples of which have survived, was produced in workshops in the West Anatolian towns of Ghiordes and Kula over a long period beginning no later than the 18th century, and exported throughout the Ottoman Empire and to Europe. On account of their elegant pastel shades and elaborate designs, Ghiordes and Kula niche carpets were especially popular pieces in the past, and could not be omitted from any major collection. Cut sides, reselvedged, the outermost borders have been renewed at both ends. Uniformly low pile.
