Ziegler Mahal Lot: 68
Ziegler Mahal A red-ground Mahal with a palmette design produced by the Ziegler company, based in Sultanabad at the time. The company had carpets knotted in their own workshops in the city or in outlying villages. External weavers working on commission in their home villages were given exact specifications as to the design, drawing, colour scheme and dimensions of their pieces. However, the women were allowed a certain freedom of expression, thus it is not uncommon for such carpets to show individual features. The coarsely woven, decorative example offered here is a piece made in the surroundings of Sultanabad rather than the city itself. Newly overcast sides, original ends, uniformly low pile, minor repairs.
Origin:
West Persia, Arak region
Size:
303 x 218 cm
Age:
Late 19th century
Estimate:
