Konya Kilim Lot: 142
Konya Kilim A large, white-ground Central Anatolian kilim composed of three panels: the field was woven as a single panel and the two borders woven separately and attached later. This approach avoids the misalignment of the design along the central axis that is so typical of two-panel Anatolian kilims. Judging by the clear and brilliant colours and balanced composition, this kilim is likely to date no later than the mid 19th century. – Original finishes all around, good condition, only slight damage to the sides.
Origin:
Central Anatolia
Dimensions:
415 x 157 cm
Age:
Mid 19th century

Malayer Lot: 147
Malayer Judging by its single-weft structure, this rug belongs to the Malayer group. Its extremely fine weave makes it one of the most high-quality examples we have seen so far. Its extremely dense repeat of delicate green twigs decorated with blossoms and botehs and arranged diagonally on the beige-ground field corresponds to the taste of the Persian upper class during the Qajar period. – Original finishes all around, pile in good condition. The selvedges have torn in various places, several minor areas were restored some time ago and now deviate slightly in colour.

Screen Lot: 168
Screen Four panels of a knotted screen that probably once consisted of eight panels. The panels are connected in pairs by a velvet ribbon. Most known screens are worked in petit point embroidery, and knotted examples are exceptionally rare. Thus it is possible that this item may have been produced in Paris, and may be associated with the royal workshops of the Savonnerie. Naturalistically drawn animals surrounded by a fantastic flora adorn the four panels; gables of varying shapes and design arch over the narrow fields, making them appear like windows through which the viewer observes nature’s wonders. The detailed and three-dimensional representations, with light and shadow effects, would have required a drawn and coloured cartoon. Surprisingly, the full brilliance of the colours has been preserved. – Very good condition.
