| Beijing | The beige ground displays an unusual design of sweeping blue-black and mid-blue vines, decorated with large, flamboyantly drawn leaves and several red lotus blossoms. Carpets of this kind echoing European Art Nouveau were made for export in Beijing workshops, and still appear highly decorative today. - Good condition with the original sides, minimally reduced ends. | |

| Khotan | The saffron field of this large-format Khotan has a mirror-image design of two pomegranate trees, more spaciously drawn than usual and bearing blue rather than red fruit. A change in design can be observed in the wide, three-panel border. Although carpets of similar composition and ornamentation were made in the workshops of the oasis, the soft, loose and irregular knotting structure indicates that our example was made in Khotan. – Somewhat reduced at the top, the original cotton kilim survives at the bottom. Obvious signs of age and wear, one small inserted area. | |

| Shirvan | This very rare Shirvan, with a repeat of palmette-like shapes enclosing animal-tree designs and a border of highly abstract star-shaped blossoms, is striking for its small dimensions, high quality and mellow colours patinated with age. Its design, drawn in an angular style, is reminiscent of sumakh flatweaves. It was possibly once used as a sitting rug. – Well preserved. | |

| Shakhrisyabz Suzani | Judging by the type of stitches, style and palette, this fabulously beautiful Suzani silk embroidery on a five-panel ground is unmistakably from Shakhrisyabz, the Green City in the Emirate of Bokhara where many of the best Suzanis were produced. On account of its rich and complex design, the quality of its embroidery and magnificent colours, it is datable to the 18th century. The extra-wide border displays the characteristic formal repertoire, although here it appears more opulent and lively than in other outstanding pieces and includes four stars in the large circular blossoms. The secondary borders show varying vines. – The aubergine sections of the design are heavily corroded. Several darned areas and stains. Not backed with fabric. | |

| Kashan Fragment | This large fragment of a Central Persian carpet, possibly made in the Imperial workshops of Kashan or Qazvin, was first published in a catalogue by Lefevre, London, in 1979 (where it was called ""Herat""). The fragment consists of many individual pieces joined together so skilfully that at first glance, they appear as a complete carpet. This Central Persian carpet may originally have measured around 3 x 5 metres, like the closely related Sangiorgi carpet (illustrated in Pope, pl. 1179). Very finely woven on a yellow silk warp, with magnificent colours and a perfectly drawn repeat of palmettes and cloudbands, this carpet is one of the best surviving examples from the mid 16th century. Its main border of a deep green ground colour shows elongated cartouches interspersed with near circular medallions, a composition that occurs in the earlier Ardabil carpet (dated 1539). – Corroded brown sections, several old repairs, pile mostly in good condition. | |
