Khotan Lot: 167
Khotan An early carpet from the Khotan oasis with a blue disc medallion and Chinese meandering lattices in the corners. The red field is closely covered in rosettes beneath the central medallion, then the basic design changes to a looser arrangement that shows other motifs of East Turkestan: star-shaped blossoms, flowering vases, endless knots and small flowers. The rare main border is decorated with colourful, offset stepped polygons. – Always loosely knotted from soft pile wool, early Khotan carpets have survived in very small numbers. This colourful example is well preserved, showing only slight signs of age.

The von Bode ""Lotto"" Carpet Lot: 173
The von Bode ""Lotto"" Carpet This important ""Lotto"" Ushak woven in a kilim style used to belong to Wilhelm von Bode, the former Director General of the Berlin museums and founder of the Islamic Museum, deceased in 1931. The piece passed from Bode´s possession into the hands of Friedrich Sarre. In 1983, this Lotto was exhibited in Austria and published in the TKF catalogue. Now it has been submitted from an old private collection in the Netherlands. A closely related, but larger and more finely woven Lotto, discovered in the Murat Pasha Mosque of Antalya, is now in the Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum, Istanbul (inv. no. 702, published by Ertug), another comparative example is in the Keir Collection. The same group also includes the Lotto in the Protestant church of Biertan, Transylvania. – Somewhat reduced sides, the original kilim ends survive.
