| Afshar Bag | Small Afshar bag in horizontal format with a garden design on a blue ground, surrounded by a border of diagonal stripes. The very fine weave has allowed the design to be executed in great detail. An outstanding example in terms of both colour and materials, probably of considerable age, whose good overall condition proves that it was appreciated by its previous owners. Slight damage to the upper edge, the red kilim back has been preserved. | |

| Daghestan Prayer Rug | The splendid palette makes this beautiful prayer rug, probably woven in one of the villages of Daghestan in north eastern Transcaucasia, especially striking. The white field under the bridge-like mihrab is covered by a hexagonal lattice of deep blue lines enclosing multi-coloured, stylised, geometric cup palmettes. The intersection points of the lattice have been accentuated. The S designs of the border, crossed at an angle, have lately been interpreted as abstract representations of birds or dragons. Prayer rugs of similar design and composition were also woven in the areas of Kuba and Shirvan further to the south, but they diverge from Daghestan rugs in their slightly different style of drawing and palette. Low pile, reselvedged, somewhat reduced ends. | |

| Khamseh Kelleh | This large Khamseh has three deep blue medallions placed along the central axis of a field densely covered in vertical stripes. The kelleh format (much too large for a simple dwelling), wool quality, precise drawing and splendid colours suggest that this first-rate rug was made to order for a tribal leader, probably in one of the small workshops of the region. The knotting structure, with dark brown wefts, and stylistic details indicate that it was made by the Baharlu. Parham illustrates a Khamseh with a stripe design in the same format. Well preserved, with the full pile and original finishes all around, several repiled areas. | |

| Sarkisla | Previously exhibited at the Frankfurt Carmelite Monastery in 1980, this Sarkisla has a memorable design of large hexagons placed in offset rows, imbued with a mysterious effect by the totemic primary motifs that go back to ancient models. The piece was woven in a Kurdish village in East Anatolia. A detailed examination of the design can be found in Brüggemann & Böhmer. Several repiled areas, now in good condition. | |

| Khamseh | The brown-red field displays a blue, geometric central medallion with a central floral star; blue and red vines decorate the white-ground corners. The design is strongly influenced by Qashqai models, including the three additional stripes with domino motifs at both ends, but the more angular drawing, darker palette, mottled brown warps and coarser weave make this rug from the province of Fars a typical weaving of the Khamseh nomads. Several small repairs, in good overall condition. | |
