Tibetan Saddle Rugs (2) Lot: 193
Tibetan Saddle Rugs (2) These two saddle rugs form a pair and were used together: the larger piece with trapezoid ends served as a saddle cloth (makden), while the smaller piece was a saddle cover (masho). Judging by the palette and design, this set was made in the region surrounding Shigatse and Gyantse, an attribution that is supported by the design of the blue-ground main border – a colourful cloud band vine based on Chinese models. Both items are in their original condition, with a red trim and, in the case of the cover, a wide textile connecting the two cut halves. – Signs of age and wear.
