In this large gabbeh, a huge, multiple nested diamond medallion stands alone the centre of the yellow field. The massive impact of the composition and bold colours create an impressive effect. It was previously published by Herrmann in 1990. – Several inserted or repaired areas, but good overall condition, original finishes all around.

This Qashqa’i kilim presents a rare field design of ten horizontal stripes in brilliant colours which are adorned with bold straight-armed crosses. The kilim was sold to a well-known Vienna collector at our second auction of the Ignazio Vok Collection (A 88) in 2016 and is now being reoffered. A mighty tree with flower-laden branches extending across the whole of the white field grows towards a sweeping flat arch at the top end of the field. The two dark blue spandrels above it are each filled with a large palmette. As is always the case in the fixed iconography of this type, two large flowering vases stand at the foot of the trunk. The design layout is strictly symmetrical in mirror image. The composition may have been modelled on the silk Kashan in the Tehran museum (see Azadi), presumably woven in the Mohtashem workshop, or an analogous piece. – We sold an almost identical example in 1987, which was later published in Ian Bennett’s article on Bakhtiari Khan carpets (see below). In that rug, the characteristic inscription ran across the entire width in an inscription band placed above the border finish. Here, the inscription is written in a rectangular cartouche placed at the centre of the upper horizontal border. It reads: "Hasab al amr farmayesh Aghaye Ali Akbar Khan amale Bakhtiari." Translation: By order of Ali Akbar Khan, the work of the Bakhtiari. – Very good condition, original finishes all around.

In this beautiful Mujur prayer rug, the luminous colours and perfection of drawing are appealing features. Its stepped arch is steeper than usual and extended in height by a tower-like spire. – Slight signs of age and wear, minor holes and tears, several repiled areas. New overcasting along the sides, both ends minimally reduced.

In the light red mihrab field, a delicately drawn tree of life is topped by a steep stepped arch. The upper green section is densely patterned with carnations. The wide yellow border of tree forms with branches bearing carnations is a typical feature of these Erzurum niche kilims. Very beautiful palette, balanced proportions. – Slight signs of age and wear, small tears and missing areas, corroded brown. Both ends minimally reduced.

Large diamond-shaped medallions with feathered points are arranged in offset rows on the ivory ground which is covered in a lattice-style, light brown design of twigs and small trees. The wide, plain, camel-coloured outer stripe is a characteristic feature of these antique Hamadan carpets. – Signs of age and wear, uniformly low pile, new overcasting along the sides, both ends slightly reduced.

Surrounded by a wide expressive border, with representations of abstract birds in the minor borders and serrated polygons in the central black-brown band, the field design of slightly wavy diagonal stripes in cheerful colours resembles a polychrome river. Its flowing movement creates an exciting contrast to the angular shapes of the border. The stripes are separated by embroidered outlines and embellished with tiny dots. The rustic style of drawing, the somewhat irregular weaving structure and the netted warp ends indicate that the kilim was made in a Daghestan village inhabited by Lesghians. – Original finishes all around, good condition.

This Tekke main carpet presents 4 x 10 perfectly drawn primary güls, chemche secondary güls and a wide main border with a design rich in variation. It quality in both aesthetic and material terms is a remarkable feature. The thick velvety pile survives at its full height. Tiny details are knotted in ruby silk. The comparatively light and unfaded colours lend the rug a luminous appearance. – Minimal repairs, otherwise in very good condition, with the kilim finishes preserved in their original length.
